Application scenarios of HDPE gas pipe:

PE pipes have been widely used in the gas industry due to their good anti-corrosion performance and flexibility. However, Compared with steel pipes, their strength is lower and they cannot withstand higher pressure levels. Therefore, HDPE gas pipes are mostly used as pipes in urban gas transmission and distribution systems.

According to the current "Urban Gas Design Code": Polyethylene pipes should be used for medium and low pressure gas pipelines, and steel pipes should be used for medium and low pressure pipelines and above. At the same time, polyethylene pipes are strictly prohibited from being used for above-ground gas pipelines in buildings and overhead gas pipelines outside buildings, and can only be used for buried gas pipe.

How to choose HDPE pipes:

Since the performance of PE80 grade mixed materials in rapid crack propagation (RCP) resistance is not as good as PE100, with the continuous improvement of polyethylene PE pipe production technology, most of the PE100 grade mixed materials are currently used as the production raw materials of PE pipes on the market; and both grades are available in terms of wall thickness.

Combined with the supply conditions on the market and the opinions of various large gas supply company, in line with the principles of economy, safety and applicability, we recommend the following in the selection of HDPE pipes:

1) For nominal diameters > 110mm, PE100 SDR17 is recommended;

2) For nominal diameters ≤ 110mm, PE100 SDR11 is recommended;
