OBI Nickel and Cobalt Project - Deep Sea Landfill Pipe Project in Indonesia

OBI Nickel and Cobalt Project - Deep Sea Landfill Pipe Project is one of the 20 major projects of “Belt and Road” in Zhejiang Province in 2019. The project is located in South Hamahela Regency, North Maluku Province, Indonesia, with a total investment of USD700 million, which will be put into production in 2020. The project utilizes the rich nickel laterite ore resources and mature wet smelting technology on OBI Island, Indonesia, to construct and operate a high-pressure acid leaching (HPAL) nickel and cobalt smelting plant and ancillary facilities, which will have an annual output of about 240,000 tons of nickel and cobalt intermediate products after put into production.

When Donghong received the project proposal, based on years of experience in pipeline operation, Donghong proposed a feasible plan and recommended the project team to use Donghong's steel wire mesh skeleton polyethylene composite pipe, which has good toughness, corrosion resistance, and ultra-high pressure-bearing capacity, and is very suitable for seawater environments. In the end, Donghong's steel wire mesh skeleton polyethylene composite pipe was tested by the project team and gained the approval of the owner, which also saved a lot of material costs for the project.
