For pipes below DN200, PE pipes are cheaper than steel pipes; PE pipe with small diameter is generally connected by electric fusion, the price of PE pipe fittings is high. For large diameter PE pipe, due to the thicker wall thickness, its price is higher than the steel pipe, but it can use hot melt connection, save pipe costs, and long life (PE pipe service life of 50 years, the service life of the steel pipe according to the State Planning Commission gas facilities depreciation fee of 18 years), no corrosion, its comprehensive price is still lower than the steel pipe investment.
(2) Because the PE pipe has strong flexibility, it can be prefabricated on the ground and then put into the pipe trench, and there is no need to do the work pit, so the amount of soil in the PE pipe construction pipe trench is smaller than that in the steel pipe construction pipe trench.
(3) Steel gas pipelines must undergo a valuable cost such as non-destructive testing during installation and welding, and the testing procedure is more complex; The testing procedure, testing method and means of PE gas pipe are simple and effective, and the testing cost is small.
Is it that PE gas pipe must be more suitable for gas projects than steel pipe? I don't think that's entirely true. Because in the long distance transportation, the pressure of gas is high, and the pressure requirement of the pipeline is high, so the steel pipe is more suitable for use as a gas pipeline. In contrast, PE gas pipeline is more suitable for short-distance gas pipeline use between cities.
