What is The Difference Between PVC and UPVC pipe?
2024-07-11
PVC materials are widely used in the manufacture of pipes.  With the subdivision of different application needs of pipes in the market,PVC pipes have also developed different models.  Today, we mainly discuss the difference between PVC pipes and PVC-U pipes.

For these two types of pipes, the most intuitive feeling of consumers is the price.  The main components of PVC pipes and PVC-U pipes are polyvinyl chloride (PVC), but their production process and formula are slightly different.  PVC tubes usually use pure polyvinyl chloride resin as the main raw material, add an appropriate amount of plasticizer, stabilizer and other auxiliary materials, and are made by mixing, plasticizing, molding and other processes.  The PVC-U pipe has undergone some modifications on the basis of the PVC pipe, such as adding lubricants, stabilizers, etc., so that it has better processing performance and use performance.  And compared with PVC pipes, the price is relatively high because PVC-U pipes are added with more plasticizers and other ingredients in the production process.  PVC pipes are relatively cheaper, so in some water supply fields, such as household pipes or municipal projects, PVC pipes have become a more economical material selection and are widely used.

So the next discussion is what happens to PVC-U compared with PVC after adding plasticizer?

First of all, in terms of compressive strength, there are many differences between PVC-U tube and PVC tube.  PVC-U tube has better toughness due to the addition of plasticizer and other components.  Its compression resistance has been improved and it can withstand higher pressure.  Therefore, PVC-U pipes have been widely used in drainage pipes, water supply pipes and other fields.  In contrast, PVC pipes are slightly inferior in terms of compression resistance.

Secondly, in terms of corrosion resistance, PVC-U tube has strong corrosion resistance, so in some special environments, such as acid-base environment and chemical environment, PVC-U tube is a better choice.  In the application, the actual construction environment should also be comprehensively considered.

And have to say that, in terms of Temperature resistance.  PVC pipes and PVC-U pipes is slightly different.  Generally speaking, PVC pipes can be used in the temperature range of -15℃ to 60℃, while PVC-U pipes can be used in the temperature range of -20℃ to 60℃.  Therefore, although PVC-U pipe has better frost resistance and heat resistance than PVC pipe, the performance of PVC is better in a dry environment, when choosing which pipe to use, it needs to be decided according to the specific use environment and temperature requirements.

Application fields of these two kinds of pipes are different.  As mentioned above, PVC pipes are more resistant to drying, while PVC-U pipes have the advantages of being more beautiful, light and durable due to the addition of plasticizers and other materials.  And in different fields, the formula of PVC-U also has slight differences, which determines that it is more flexible than PVC pipes in its application field.  PVC pipes are mainly used for drainage systems, water supply systems, etc.  PVC-U pipes are widely used in wires and cables, construction water conservancy projects, low-pressure irrigation and other fields.

Finally, although PVC pipe and PVC-U pipe are similar in appearance, there are some differences in material, performance and use.  When choosing which pipe to use, it still needs to be decided according to the specific use environment and requirements.
